Nurse Practitioner Duties:

  • The Nurse Practitioner shall provide occupational health care and primary care to beneficiaries assigned to 5th Medical Group. These tasks include performing primary care and occupational health clinician duties and the associated administrative tasks.
  • Care shall include but not be limited to continuing, comprehensive health maintenance and provision of medical care, including preventive medicine, behavioral health, occupational health, and community health.
  • o The Nurse Practitioner may become the primary care manager (PCM) for a panel of patients. As a PCM, the flight medicine physician will be the primary person responsible for the management of the health and wellness of his/her assigned patients. Duties include but are not limited to:o Examination of patients, formulation of differential diagnostic plans, ordering of appropriate diagnostic testing.

o Interpretation of examination findings and test results, and implementation of treatment plans.

o Determination of the need for consultation and assisting in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists.

o Approving/disapproving subspecialty referrals.

o Directing case management activities.

o Answering patient telephone consults with the assistance of clinic staff.

o Providing primary and secondary preventive maintenance care.

o Review, interpret, and act upon medical surveillance data relating to the Occupational Health program.

o Prepare records and reports as required in support of services rendered in accordance with established procedures.

o Attend and participate in patient care reports, review meetings, patient care conferences, team conferences, professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities only to the extent that such attendance and participation is relative to assigned cases and/or performance of services.

o Conduct special operational evaluations and determinations, including (but not limited to):

Apply medical, fitness and profiling standards IAW AFIs 48-123, and 10-203 (including profiling and duty restrictions as Profile Officer).

Complete deployment health assessments IAW DHA policy.

o The Flight and Operational Medicine Clinic Flight Commander will assign specific duties/patient care assignments, and other duties deemed necessary.

(1) Have experience with completing tasks using Microsoft Office applications with minimal guidance.

(2) Become proficient in the use of the following computer systems: MHS Genesis, and Aeromedical Services Information Management System (ASIMS).

(3) Complete SHPE Program orientation with a flight representative. This is a one-time training requirement.

(4) Assist BOMC with medical record reviews for Deployment- Related Health Assessments (DRHA), Separation History and Physical Exams (SHPE) and all other Medical Clearances for Deployment, PCS, Retraining, Palace Chase/Palace Front, and retention.

(5) Act as Competent Medical Authority (CMA). Training will be provided by the government. CMA will act as medical consultant to the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) commanders.

Position Overview:
This role is primarily clinic-based with a strong focus on telemedicine. The provider will work closely with the MFM physician and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to deliver care and education to high-risk OB patients, including those managing conditions such as diabetes during pregnancy. This position will require travel between clinic locations in McAllen, Harlingen, and Brownsville.

Schedule:

  • Monday Thursday: 8:00 am 5:00 pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide care for high-risk obstetric patients in a clinic and telemedicine setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess, evaluate, diagnose, and provide initial treatment to all patients presenting to the Urgent Care or clinic.
  • Document patient histories with a focus on the chief complaint and acute problems, including a brief medical history of other significant conditions.
  • Perform systematic and problem-focused physical examinations as clinically indicated.
  • Initiate appropriate laboratory testing and radiologic evaluations based on patient history and examination findings.
  • Treat and manage self-limiting and acute illnesses.
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records for all patient encounters.
  • Educate patients on physical and mental health topics, disease processes, treatment plans, and dietary considerations.
  • Refer patients to appropriate community health facilities, agencies, and support resources as needed.
  • Perform clinical procedures, including:
    • Laceration repair
    • Foreign body removal
    • Fracture management
    • Wound debridement
    • Incision and drainage

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduate degree from an accredited school of nursing or equivalent for licensing.

Experience:

  • One year of nursing experience as a nurse practitioner or two years as a registered nurse in an adult acute care setting.

License and/or Certifications Required:

  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
