Position Description:

The OR Nurse functions as Circulator/Scrub Nurse in the Operating Room. Organizes and administers individualized, professional patient care to patients within the Operating Room. Provides nursing care in accordance with the objectives, policies, procedures and protocols of the hospital and AORN, ASPAN and SGNA standards. Participates in patient teaching; incorporates the needs and behavior of the patient’s specific age/cultural groups in planning and providing care. Participates in quality improvement activities.

The Ambulatory Operating Room provides care for same-day surgery patients. Although it functions as an outpatient surgical center, the Ambulatory OR delivers specialized surgical care to individuals with complex medical conditions. Surgical service lines covered include colorectal, dental, ear, nose, and throat (ENT), general surgery, gynecology, urology, urogynecology, oral maxillofacial, ophthalmology, plastics, and pediatrics. The Ambulatory OR plays a crucial role in reducing the need for extended hospital stays, offering patients high-quality, efficient care to patients who can recover safely at home.

Qualifications

·         Current active CT RN License

·         Previous OR experience required (OR Novice nurses, including Graduate Nurses, may apply to the OR Nurse Transition to Practice Program)

·         BSN Preferred

·         Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire

·         Excellent interpersonal skills

·         Independent problem-solving skills

·         Excellent communication skills

·         CNOR certification preferred

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nurse Aide performs activities which assist the patient in meeting basic human needs and activities of daily living under the direction of the RN or LPN.  Performs additional competencies to enhance coordination and collaboration of patient care under the direction of the RN or LPN.  Ensures accurate and clear communication to patients, families, and other employees at all times, assisting with other duties as needed to maintain a safe and clean environment. Maintains an accurate medical record. Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.  

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• High School graduate or equivalent.

• Successful completion of certified nursing assistant program is preferred but not required.

OR

• Active Certified Nurse Assistant certification upon hire.

• Completion of classroom education on Nurse Aide competencies and written verification of such competencies in the clinical area required within the new employee introductory orientation period and maintain clinical competency during employment with ECHN in this role. 

• Must have certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire or receive certification within the new employee introductory orientation period and maintain clinical competency during employment with ECHN in this role.

   COMPETENCIES:

• Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English.

• Basic Computer skills are necessary.

Perform duties as oriented, including removal of a saline lock, removal of a Foley catheter, pulse oximetry, emptying a Jackson-Pratt drain, telemetry application and performing EKGs, disconnect/reconnect salem sump, glucose meter, measure and record nasogastric drainage and/or other duties as assigned.

The Neuro-Surgical ICU is a 17 bed adult inpatient unit caring for critically ill Neuro-science and Neuro-surgical patients. Our patient population consists of stroke, head and spinal cord trauma and brain hemorrhage. These patients require nurses who specialize in monitoring intracranial pressures, brain tissue oxygenation and hemo-dynamic monitoring. RN’s in this specialty also must have a family-centered approach because of the critical nature of our patients. We also work closely with our Neuro-intensivist, Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses to provide the highest quality of care for our patients.

Job Summary
In critical care, our nurses are highly skilled and trained; helping to provide expertise at the bedside and the highest quality care in the most compassionate way. The units heavily rely on a team-based mentality in which all healthcare team members work congruently to achieve the best outcomes based on the Hartford Healthcare values of Safety, Excellence, Integrity and Caring.

• Current Connecticut RN License.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school (BSN Required).
• BLS certification by the American Heart Association, ACLS certification, and proof of Arrhythmia Certification required prior to date of hire.

• In exceptional circumstances, experienced ASN/ADN nurses currently in pursuit of a BSN or MSN may be considered.

Job Summary
Our Nurses work in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams, focused on a patient centered care model in a richly diverse work space. Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the registered nurse utilizes evidence based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, policies and procedures of the hospital and as directed by the medical staff. The registered nurse who through knowledge and ability uses the nursing process to develop a plan of care which includes standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional spiritual, cultural and educational needs of the patient and family.

This role is eligible for enrollment in the Ayer Neuroscience Institute Neuroscience Nurse Developmental Fellowship program.  Upon completion of certain milestones, Graduate Nurses are eligible to earn up to an additional $10,000 bonus, while experiences nurses can earn up to an additional $5,000. 

North 9 is a surgical unit with private rooms, is comprised of Neurosurgical and Trauma patients, with a 9 bed Step Down attached. There is room for growth and development, as nurses are eventually cross trained into the Step Down. Hartford Hospital is Stroke and Spine Certified, and the nurses on North 9 are part of the Rapid responders, and Stroke Stat Responder team at the hospital.

Qualifications

• Current Connecticut RN License.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school
• ASN Required (Must obtain a BSN within 6 years of starting in the RN role)
• BSN preferred.
• BLS certification by the American Heart Association required prior to date of hire.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nurse Aide performs activities which assist the patient in meeting basic human needs and activities of daily living under the direction of the RN or LPN.  Performs additional competencies to enhance coordination and collaboration of patient care under the direction of the RN or LPN.  Ensures accurate and clear communication to patients, families, and other employees at all times, assisting with other duties as needed to maintain a safe and clean environment. Our Nurses work in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams, focused on a patient centered care model in a richly diverse work space. Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the registered nurse utilizes evidence based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, policies and procedures of the hospital and as directed by the medical staff. The registered nurse who through knowledge and ability uses the nursing process to develop a plan of care which includes standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional spiritual, cultural and educational needs of the patient and family.

This role is eligible for enrollment in the Ayer Neuroscience Institute Neuroscience Nurse Developmental Fellowship program.  Upon completion of certain milestones, Graduate Nurses are eligible to earn up to an additional $10,000 bonus, while experiences nurses can earn up to an additional $5,000. 

North 9 is a surgical unit with private rooms, is comprised of Neurosurgical and Trauma patients, with a 9 bed Step Down attached. There is room for growth and development, as nurses are eventually cross trained into the Step Down. Hartford Hospital is Stroke and Spine Certified, and the nurses on North 9 are part of the Rapid responders, and Stroke Stat Responder team at the hospital.

• Current Connecticut RN License.

Hartford HealthCare’s Behavioral Health Network (HHC BHN), the largest and most comprehensive behavioral health system in New England, has a new opportunity available for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide admission physical exams, psychiatric evaluations and medication management at The Ridge, a newly created residential addiction treatment facility, located in Windham, CT.

Rushford Center, one of Connecticut’s leading providers of addiction and mental health services, is nationally recognized for delivering outstanding prevention, treatment and recovery programs. We offer a wide range of programs including Acute Care and Evaluation, Residential Addiction Treatment, Individual, Group & Family Therapy, Intensive Outpatient programs and Community Support Programs. POSITION SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Practitioners are responsible for providing physical exams, psychiatric evaluations and addiction treatment including: diagnosis; prescribing; coordination of care, and patient education. Primary responsibilities will be in the inpatient withdrawal management and residential program, but may include Partial Hospital, Outpatient and community settings as determined by the Medical Director.  The practitioners will work closely with the Residential Medical Director, staff psychiatrists, and clinicians in a patient centered multidisciplinary treatment team approach.  The practitioner will hold licensure through the State of CT Department of Public Health and be credentialed through the medical staff of Rushford.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.   Evaluate patients through detailed physical exam,  a full review of psychosocial comprehensive assessments, and development of a detailed medical history.

2.   Orders/performs appropriate laboratory diagnostic and other screening tests.  Seeks other information as needed, including consultation with primary care physicians and medical specialists.

3.   In collaboration with clinical and nursing staff, develops and implements a treatment plan that involves and includes the patient in active participation in treatment. And revises the plan as indicated.

4.   Writes orders for  medications, treatments and other matters pertaining to patients care.

5.   Writes progress notes on patient’s charts indicating patient status and treatment recommended.

6.   Provides education to individuals or groups as appropriate and requested by the Medical Director.

7.   Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and provides emotional support to family members when appropriate.

8.   Charts observations, test results and all patient communication in the medical record as directed by Rushford policy and procedure.

9.   Ensures accurate maintenance of patient’s medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information.

10.      Advises patients on use of various medication including dosage, side effects and composition.

11.      Reviews and interprets results of diagnostic studies and tests, consults with supervisory physician when appropriate, incorporates information into plan of care.

12.      Determines and discusses diagnosis with patient, documents information on charts including billing codes.

13.      Recommends and develops new services and programs.

14.      Participates in peer review, chart reviews, staff education, clinical guidelines development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards.

15.      Displays and upholds Rushford core values of dignity, compassion, service excellence, community and integrity.  Consistently demonstrates caring for patients, for one another, and for the organization they are part of, and contributes to building trust, pride and camaraderie. 

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL REQUIREMENTS, AND DESIRED ATTRIBUTES 

1.   Knowledge of advanced practice of nursing/PA-C including anatomy and physiology, psychosocial/family systems, drug and alcohol addiction, diagnostic testing, interpretation of results and clinical decision making.

2.   Knowledge of professional nursing theory/PA-C, practices and regulations related to evaluating and providing patient care, and professional ethics related to the delivery of nursing care.

3.   Maintains good relations and fosters effective public relations with patients, medical staff and other departments as well as other hospitals and outside programs and providers that use services.

4.   Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards and participates in assigned quality improvement efforts and development of new procedures for patient care.

5.   Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops and incorporates information for improving patient care.

6.   Attends clinical disposition, supervision, and case review meetings as required.

7.   Meets the established quality and productivity measure of the department.

8.   Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse is a certified clinical nurse specialist. The PA holds a National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants certificate and PA-C designation. CPR certification required. The job also requires an active CT DEA/CT Controlled Substance license.

Job Summary
Our Nurses work in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams, focused on a patient centered care model in a richly diverse work space. Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the registered nurse utilizes evidence based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, policies and procedures of the hospital and as directed by the medical staff. The registered nurse who through knowledge and ability uses the nursing process to develop a plan of care which includes standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional spiritual, cultural and educational needs of the patient and family.

This role is eligible for enrollment in the Ayer Neuroscience Institute Neuroscience Nurse Developmental Fellowship program.  Upon completion of certain milestones, Graduate Nurses are eligible to earn up to an additional $10,000 bonus, while experiences nurses can earn up to an additional $5,000. 

North 9 is a surgical unit with private rooms, is comprised of Neurosurgical and Trauma patients, with a 9 bed Step Down attached. There is room for growth and development, as nurses are eventually cross trained into the Step Down. Hartford Hospital is Stroke and Spine Certified, and the nurses on North 9 are part of the Rapid responders, and Stroke Stat Responder team at the hospital.

Qualifications

• Current Connecticut RN License.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school
• ASN Required (Must obtain a BSN within 6 years of starting in the RN role)
• BSN preferred.
• BLS certification by the American Heart Association required prior to date of hire.
