Head of Robotics Engineering
dexmate
co
Compensation: 180.000 - 240.000

Dexmate is building the foundation for physical AI — a unified platform that combines high-quality robotic hardware with a universal Physical AI OS, making robots as easy to build and deploy as software. Today, robotics is fragmented, slow, and closed: most builders are forced to reinvent the same stack again and again, and most ideas never make it past the prototype stage. We exist to change that. Our mission is to democratize robotics by lowering the barrier to entry, delivering a plug‑and‑play platform for developers, researchers, and enterprises, and cultivating an open ecosystem that accelerates the evolution of physical AI. If you want to help shape the next layer of human capability — and believe the future of robotics should be built together, not in isolation — we'd love to build it with you.

About the Role

You'll own the engineering organization responsible for making the robot work reliably in the real world — the firmware that runs on the robot, the control and planning systems that make it move and act intelligently, the teleoperation systems that let humans operate and collect data from it, and the technical training and support functions that keep robots running once they're deployed with customers and partners, etc.

This is a hands‑on leadership role spanning deep embedded/controls engineering, hardware root‑cause investigation, and the operational discipline of supporting physical robots in the field. You'll need to be credible reviewing firmware and control‑system code directly, lead root‑cause analysis across mechanical, electrical, and firmware domains, and build the processes — training, escalation, support — that keep a growing fleet operating reliably

What you’ll do

  1. Own the architecture and roadmap for robot‑side firmware: real‑time control loops, sensor/actuator interfaces, safety systems, and the low‑level software running on the robot's onboard compute.
  2. Lead development of the control and planning stack: locomotion, manipulation, whole‑body control, and the real‑time systems that translate high‑level commands into safe, reliable robot behavior.
  3. Lead controls, firmware, and hardware sustaining engineering for the deployed product line, including developing new capabilities on the existing platform — not just maintaining what's shipped, but extending it.
  4. Own the teleoperation system: the software and interfaces that let operators control robots remotely and collect training data, including latency, reliability, and operator‑experience tradeoffs.
  5. Build and manage the customer support team, with clear escalation paths and response processes for issues arising from deployed robots.
  6. Turn customer feedback and fleet data into root‑caused, prioritized engineering work; drive fixes through to validated releases deployed back to robots in the field.
  7. Investigate hardware failures arising from customer use and drive corrective actions in partnership with hardware and manufacturing teams — closing the loop from field failure to design or process fix.
  8. Build and lead the engineering training function: onboarding and up‑skilling engineers (internal and field‑facing) on firmware, controls, and teleoperation systems as the team and fleet scale.
  9. Set engineering standards across firmware, controls, and teleoperation: code review practices, testing and validation for safety‑critical robot behavior, and release/rollout discipline for software running on physical hardware.
  10. Stay hands‑on — write and review code directly on critical systems, especially firmware and control‑system work where getting the fundamentals right early prevents expensive rework later.
  11. Partner directly with the CEO, the software platform architecture lead, and mechanical/electrical engineering to keep robot‑side software, cloud platform, and hardware development in sync.
  12. Represent robot engineering to enterprise partners and customers during technical evaluations, pilots, and escalations.

Requirements

Core experience

  • 8+ years in robotics engineering with a strong traditional foundation: dynamics, kinematics, control theory (impedance/admittance control, whole‑body control), and state estimation.
  • Experience owning a shipped hardware product post‑launch: field root‑cause analysis, firmware releases, and incremental improvement over the product's deployed life — not just pre‑launch development.
  • Still hands‑on: writes and reviews production firmware/controls code regularly, not just architecture docs.

Firmware and real‑time systems

  • Deep experience with embedded/real‑time software: RTOS or PREEMPT_RT environments, sensor/actuator driver integration, real‑time scheduling and timing constraints, and hardware‑software co‑design.
  • Experience architecting firmware for safety‑critical behavior: fault detection, graceful degradation, and safe‑state handling when sensors or actuators fail.

Controls and planning

  • Experience with robot control and planning systems: locomotion, manipulation, whole‑body control, or equivalent domains (e.g., autonomous vehicle motion planning), including tradeoffs between classical control and learning‑based approaches.
  • Comfort operating at the interface between controls, perception, and higher‑level planning/AI systems.

Cross‑disciplinary hardware root‑cause

  • Solid cross‑disciplinary hardware understanding — mechanical design and mechanisms, PCB/electronics, actuators, sensors, and wiring — enough to lead root‑cause investigations that span mechanical, electrical, and firmware domains rather than handing off at the first domain boundary.
  • Comfort driving corrective actions with hardware and manufacturing teams, including translating a field failure into a design change, process change, or manufacturing fix.

Teleoperation

  • Experience building or operating teleoperation systems: low‑latency remote control, operator interface design, and the data pipelines that turn teleoperation sessions into usable training data.

Field operations and org‑building

  • Experience building or scaling a customer‑facing technical support function — triage processes, escalation paths, and the discipline to turn field issues into prioritized engineering work rather than one‑off fires.
  • Experience building technical training programs for engineering or field teams, ideally in a hardware or robotics context.
  • Track record of hiring and developing engineers across firmware, controls, and field‑facing roles.

Nice to have

  • Experience with humanoid robots or other complex multi‑DOF robotic systems specifically.
  • Prior startup leadership experience, ideally as an early robotics engineering leader scaling a team from single digits.
  • Familiarity with the compute/networking stack robots typically run on (e.g., Jetson‑class edge compute, EtherCAT, real‑time Linux).

Staff Machine Learning Engineer (Pricing)
GoFundMe
san francisco, ca
Compensation: 215.000 - 322.000

Staff Machine Learning Engineer (Pricing)

Want to help us help others? We’re hiring!

GoFundMe is the world’s most powerful community for good, dedicated to helping people help each other. By uniting individuals and nonprofits in one place, GoFundMe makes it easy and safe for people to ask for help and support causes – for themselves and each other. Together, our community has raised more than $40 billion since 2010.

Join GoFundMe as our next Staff Machine Learning Engineer (Pricing) . In this role, you will design, develop, and deploy machine learning systems that power pricing and monetization programs across GoFundMe such as personalized donation and checkout experiences, donation yield optimization (one-time and recurring), recurring donor LTV optimization, fundraising goal suggestions, and more. This role requires strong end-to-end execution and deep expertise in building production ML systems (data → training → online inference → measurement) with rigorous experimentation and monitoring.

Candidates considered for this role will be located in the San Francisco, Bay Area. There will be an in-office requirement of 3x a week.

The Job…

  • Own end-to-end ML systems for pricing optimization, from problem framing and metric definition (e.g., donation yield, conversion, retention, LTV) to model development, launch, and iteration in production.
  • Design and implement backend model pipelines including feature engineering, training, and evaluation.
  • Build low-latency real-time inferencing services, including API design, caching strategies, model packaging, and deployment on Kubernetes.
  • Collaborate with teams to develop instrumentation and event pipelines to capture user and campaign activity required for training and evaluation (e.g., impression/click/submit, donation amount, tip amount, recurring enrollment/cancellation), ensuring schema quality, lineage, and privacy-by-design.
  • Apply causal and experimental methodologies to measure impact and avoid biased optimization, including online A/B testing design, guardrail metrics, sequential testing considerations, and counterfactual/causal approaches when needed.
  • Develop optimization approaches appropriate for pricing-like problems, such as uplift modeling, bandits, constrained optimization, calibration, and multi-objective tradeoffs (e.g., yield vs. donor trust, short-term conversion vs. long-term retention).
  • Establish ML operational excellence by implementing model observability (latency, errors, drift, calibration, business KPI deltas), automated retraining triggers, rollback strategies, and incident response playbooks for pricing systems.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Design, and Legal/Privacy stakeholders to translate business goals into measurable technical deliverables and ship safely.
  • Mentor and set technical direction for other engineers and scientists through design reviews, architecture decisions, and shared best practices for production ML in monetization.
  • Employ a diverse set of tools and platforms, including Python, AWS, Databricks, Docker, Kubernetes, FastAPI, Terraform, Snowflake, and GitHub, to develop, deploy, and maintain scalable and robust machine learning systems. (Full-stack experience—e.g., integrating with web clients and experimentation frameworks—is a plus.)
  • 7+ years of hands‑on experience building and shipping production machine learning systems, with demonstrated ownership of backend services and ML pipelines in a high‑availability environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and ML libraries/frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, plus strong software engineering fundamentals (testing, code review, CI/CD, API design, performance, and reliability).
  • Demonstrated experience in pricing/monetization or growth optimization domains preferred.
  • Experience designing and deploying real‑time model serving (sub‑100ms to low‑hundreds ms latency targets), including containerization, scalable inference, feature retrieval, and safe rollout strategies (canaries, shadowing, backward‑compatible schema evolution).
  • Strong data engineering fluency: building reliable datasets and features using SQL, Spark/Databricks, and warehouse technologies (e.g., Snowflake), with an understanding of event semantics, identity resolution, and data quality controls.
  • Working knowledge of experiment design and causal measurement for monetization systems, including pitfalls such as selection bias, interference, and delayed outcomes; familiarity with uplift modeling, bandits, or constrained optimization is a strong plus.
  • Experience implementing ML monitoring for both technical and business metrics (drift, calibration, segment performance, latency, error budgets) and operating models in production.
  • Ability to break down ambiguous, high‑impact problems, define crisp interfaces and success metrics, and deliver iteratively with strong stakeholder communication.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills and a proven ability to raise the bar on architecture, engineering quality, and operational rigor for ML‑powered pricing systems.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Sense of humor is optional but appreciated.
