Machine Operator

The Lee's Summit Printing Department is responsible for the printing and decoration of plastic manufactured food containers.

Reporting to the Printing Shift Supervisor, the Machine Operator is responsible for operating a dry offset printing press and packing/unpacking rigid plastic containers and lids. A fully qualified Machine Operator will be skilled in the following key responsibilities, however may only be required to perform one of more of the responsibilities at a given time.

This is a third shift position. The hours for this role are 10:45pm to 7:00am, Monday Friday. Occasional overtime will be required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Start, stop, run, and tear down Dry Offset Printing Presses
  • Perform job kit verification, line clearance, replacing plates and washing and preparing color heads
  • Run all lid and base presses, this includes all six and eight color presses
  • Pack/unpack boxes of finished products according to customer requirements
  • Remove and handle trending tray product samples
  • Apply labels to boxes and stamp every box without pre-labeling
  • Cover other Machine Operators during their lunch and breaks
  • Monitor product quality, visually inspecting products at the packing station and maintaining the trending tray
  • Perform product control duties, update job cards and enter information on daily machine scheduling and attainment board (white board)
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures and never compromise safety
  • Treat fellow team members with honesty, respect and dignity
  • Meet standards of conduct and adhere to 5S, HACCP and Health and Safety rules

Skills/Experience Required:

Educational Requirements: High School or equivalent

Minimum Experience/Field: Minimum six months work experience in a printing or manufacturing environment. Dry Offset printing experience required.

Communication Skills: Fluent in English with good written and verbal communication skills

REQUIRED MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES (Including, but not limited to the following): SENSING The ability to speak, hear, and understand verbal communication on telephone and in person is necessary. Near and mid-range vision is used for most in-store tasks. Depth perception in necessary for all positions. Personnel must have the ability to differentiate between hot and cold surfaces. Far vision and night vision are needed for delivery personnel. TEMPERAMENTS The ability to direct activities, perform repetitive tasks, work alone and with others, work under stress, meet strict quality control standards, deal with people, analyze and compile data, make judgments and decisions is necessary throughout shifts. STANDING Most tasks are performed from a standing position. Walking surfaces include ceramic tile, concrete, or linoleum in some food process areas. Height of work surfaces is between 36" and 48". WALKING Walking is frequently required for short distances and short durations. Personnel must travel between the store and customer vehicles. Delivery personnel must travel between delivery vehicles/e-bikes and from the delivery vehicle/e-bike to the customer's location. SITTING Paperwork is normally completed while sitting. Driving to and from deliveries or meetings requires sitting. LIFTING Bulk product deliveries are made twice a week or more and are unloaded by the team members on duty during the deliveries. Deliveries may include cases of ingredients and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds with dimensions of up to 3' x 1.5'. Cases are usually lifted from the floor and stacked onto shelves up to 72" high. CARRYING Dough trays weigh approximately 12 pounds, cases of products weighing up to 25 pounds, and prepped items may need to be carried from the walk-in cooler to the make-line. Items such as cases of pizza sauce, weighing 30 pounds, may occasionally need to be carried from the storage area to the prep area, and from the prep area to the front of the store. During delivery, carrying products while performing "walking" and "climbing" duties may be required. PUSHING/PULLING This may be required to move trays or products placed on dollies, or to move empty trays or trash cans. A stack of trays on a dolly is approximately 24" - 30" and requires a force of up to 7.5 pounds to push. CLIMBING Team members must infrequently navigate stairs or climb a ladder to change air fresheners, clean walls, or perform maintenance. During delivery of product, navigation of five or more flights of stairs may be required.

BENDING/CROUCHING/SQUATTING Performed occasionally to stock shelves and to clean low areas.

Forward bending at the waist is necessary at the pizza assembly station. Toe room is present, but workers are unable to flex their knees while standing at this station. Duration of this position is generally less than one minute and may be repeated frequently. Forward bending is also present at the front counter and when stocking items. REACHING Reaching is performed continuously; up, down and forward. Workers reach above 72" occasionally to turn on/off oven, heat lamp, or television controls, and to lift and lower objects to and from shelves. Workers reach down to perform tasks such as scooping cornmeal from a plastic barrel, or washing dishes. Workers reach forward when obtaining topping ingredients, cleaning work surfaces, or answering phones. HAND TASKS Eye-hand coordination is essential. Use of hands is continuous during the day. Activities frequently require use of one or both hands.

Shaping pizza dough requires frequent and forceful use of forearms and wrists. Workers must manipulate a pizza peel when removing pizza from the oven, and when using the different pizza cutters. Frequent and/or forceful pinching is required in the assembly of cardboard pizza boxes. Team Members must be able to grasp cans, the phone, the pizza cutter, the pizza peel, and pizza boxes. Job Duties

Maximize the sale of warehouse products such as rack, mezzanines, and ancillary equipment. Assume responsibility for large warehouse solutions projects initiated by sales staff. Support sales staff on customer visits, equipment sourcing, quotations, and order processing. Generate new business through internally provided leads, prospecting, and networking. Prepare warehouse solutions sales forecasts, and assist in development of warehouse solutions sales strategies, proposals, and presentations. Identify, recommend, and conduct appropriate warehouse solutions training to develop the sales staff. Communicate with associated product vendors. Assist in defining specifications for customer applications. Draw full size scalable CAD drawings as required. Review drawings, quotations, quantities, and capacity calculations to ensure specifications are met. Close sales to meet quotas for warehouse products. Responsible for project management of the installation.

Minimum Qualifications

2-4 years related experience Associate degree, preferably in business management, marketing, entrepreneurship, professional selling, or related business program, or equivalent experience High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license, good driving record, and the ability to safely operate lift trucks

Preferred Qualifications

A four-year college degree is desirable for this position Warehouse product knowledge and previous sales experience strongly preferred Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills Strong problem-solving capabilities, strong sense of responsibility and self-motivation, and ability to work in a team environment Microsoft Office experience Several years of successful sales experience.

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of understanding of relevant production processes and quality systems
  • Perform the QA review and approval of the following GMP documentation that has direct impact on the activities performed by, and facilities utilized in their corresponding areas as applicable:
    • Change Requests
    • Batch Records and associated documentation
    • Product and Component Release transactions in SAP
    • Quality Investigations (Deviations, Product Complaints)
    • Validation Plans, Protocols and Reports
    • Standard Operating Procedures
  • Accountable for disposition (release or rejection) of incoming materials and finished packaged product
  • Collaborate with and influence other Quality professionals across the organization to ensure consistent application and execution of key quality systems
  • Execute QA processes including batch record review, product disposition, and quality issue resolution to maintain the flow of products and documents to meet site objectives
  • Interface with applicable site support groups on projects (capital and non-capital) that impact the operations/assigned area, and proactively ensure GMP compliance during the planning, execution, and closeout phases of these projects
  • Collaborate with and influence other Operations/assigned area members to facilitate process improvements and risk assessments; benchmark internal and external QA practices to identify innovative efficient and effective practices
  • Stay abreast of evolving regulatory compliance practices and recommend implementation strategies to site leaders
  • Collaborate in data analysis and report creation on quality metrics and key performance indicators
  • Strong collaboration between other areas to ensure consistent application of quality systems/processes across the site
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance from management
  • Influence in team and project meetings, advising project teams with respect to quality solutions and potential new approaches for consideration
  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities
  • Train and mentor junior members of the QA organization and provide QA coaching to other non-QA employees within the area supported
