Natchaug Hospital offers:

  • Small free-standing Psychiatric Hospital with unique, tight knit units that work collaboratively to provide care to Eastern Connecticut.
  • Leading provider for children, adolescents and adults with mental illness and substance use addictions. 
  • Offers a variety of programs including inpatient and outpatient behavioral health, residential treatment for court-involved teenage girls, geriatric services, clinical day treatment schools and chemical dependency services.
  • Two units: Pediatric/Adolescents (26 beds) and Adults (33 beds)

  • Three shifts available - first, second, third.  They are 8 hour shifts. 

  • Set schedules: 8 hour to 32 hours per week as well as per diem.

The Registered Nurse utilizes psychiatric/chemical dependency nursing skills as a direct client care provider and is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.  The RN works under the direction of the Nurse Manager and/or the RN Designee and is responsible for the delivery of direct client care to clients individually, in groups and in the milieu. The RN is a role model for other staff members and is a leader in teaching other staff, in program development, in guiding group decision making, in developing and implementing treatment plans and improving the quality of care.  The RN adheres to Hospital policies and procedures as well as applicable accreditation standards and state and federal regulations towards excellence in client care.  


Qualifications


• Psychiatric experience preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Current Connecticut RN License
• Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.

Position Summary:
The Inpatient WOCN APRN is a highly skilled advanced practice nurse specializing in assessment, management, and prevention of complex wounds, ostomies, and continence-related conditions. This role provides expert consultation across inpatient units, delivering evidence-based care, promoting optimal patient outcomes, and supporting interdisciplinary collaboration. The WOCN APRN serves as a clinical leader, educator, and resources for patients, families, and healthcare staff.

Work Environment:

  • Requires mobility between units and direct patient care activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Consultation & Patient Care:

  • Perform comprehensive wound assessments, including identification of wound etiology and accurate staging/classification.
  • Develop and implement individualized wound care plans, including advanced dressing recommendations and treatment modalities.
  • Lead pressure injury prevention initiatives, including risk assessment, staff guidance, and protocol implementation.
  • Provide ostomy care services, including preoperative stoma site marking and postoperative management.
  • Deliver ostomy education to patients and caregivers, ensuring competence in self-care prior to discharge.
  • Troubleshoot complex ostomy complications and provide ongoing support to optimize patient outcomes.

Collaboration & Interdisciplinary Care:

  • Collaborate closely with hospitalists, surgical teams, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive care plans.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and case reviews to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for staff regarding best practices in wound, ostomy, and continence care.

Education & Leadership:

  • Provide formal and informal education to nursing staff, providers, and ancillary personnel on wound care, pressure injury prevention, and ostomy management.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Education to provide education to clinical staff and help maintain competencies associated with wound care
  • Support onboarding and ongoing competency development related to WOCN practices.
  • Contribute to patient and family education initiatives to improve health literacy and outcomes.

Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Role Scope   

·               At HHC Advanced Practitioners enjoy the full scope of advanced practice and receive recognition and respect for their contributions to high quality patient care.

·               We currently seek an APP to support inpatient cardiology consults at Midstate Medical Center in collaboration with the Physicians.

·               The selected candidate will also provide outpatient care including stress testing, remote device monitoring and General Cardiology office visits as part of the role   

·               Practice with autonomy and enjoy the close mentorship and collegiality of a leading regional cardiology group.

Qualifications


Advanced Practitioner Qualifications  

·               Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Master’s program preferred

·               Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant / Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Connecticut

·               Certification or eligible to be certified as a Physician Assistant or National Board Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse

·               Cardiology experience preferred 

·               APRN/PA experience required.

Job Description 

Under provider direction, the RN provides skilled nursing care to patients in a variety of clinical settings. Scope of responsibility is characterized by use of nursing process to assess, plan, intervene and evaluate human responses to actual or potential health problems utilizing appropriate practices, standards, protocols and guidelines. This position reports to a Practice Manager. 

•        Provides office-based nursing care in collaboration with provider 

•        Assesses physical and psychosocial needs and environmental factors affecting patients and their families, formulates nursing plan of care and ensures continuity of patient care through appropriate nursing evaluation and intervention 

•        Demonstrates independent nursing actions based on assessment and problem identification 

•        Triages telephone calls and displays ability to initiate appropriate nursing intervention in prompt, precise, and professional manner 

•        Assists patients and family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respects confidentiality and privacy 

Travel to other regional offices, as needed

The Workers' Compensation Claim Advocate position is responsible for the investigation and adjustment of assigned workers' compensation claims. This position may be used as an advanced training position for promotion consideration for supervisory/management positions. The position is also accountable for the quality of workers' compensation claim services as perceived by CCMSI clients and within our corporate claim standards.

Disclosure: This is a true workers' compensation claims adjuster position, cradle-to-grave, within a fast?paced TPA environment. This role is hybrid, reporting to the Lisle, IL branch.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, evaluate and adjust workers' compensation claims in accordance with established claim handling standards and laws.
  • Establish reserves and/or provide reserve recommendations within established reserve authority levels.
  • Review, approve or provide oversight of medical, legal, damage estimates and miscellaneous invoices to determine if reasonable and related to designated workers' compensation claims. Negotiate any disputed bills or invoices for resolution.
  • Authorize and make payments of workers' compensation claims in accordance with claim procedures utilizing a claim payment program in accordance with industry standards and within established payment authority.
  • Negotiate settlements in accordance within Corporate Claim Standards, client specific handling instructions and state laws, when appropriate.
  • Assist in the selection, referral and supervision of designated workers' compensation claim files sent to outside vendors. (i.e. legal, surveillance, case management, etc.)
  • Review and maintain personal diary on claim system.
  • Assess and monitor subrogation claims for resolution.
  • Compute disability rates in accordance with state laws.
  • Effective and timely coordination of communication with clients, claimants and other appropriate parties throughout the workers' compensation claim adjustment process.
  • Provide notices of qualifying claims to excess/reinsurance carriers.
  • Compliance with Corporate Claim Handling Standards and special client handling instructions as established.

Education and/or Experience

5+ years workers' compensation claim experience is required.

Nice to Have:

  • Bilingual (Spanish) proficiency highly valued for communicating with claimants, employers, or vendors, but not required.

Computer Skills

Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

IL or TX Adjuster's license is preferred.

AIC, ARM or CPCU Designation preferred.
