The Edward Jones Trust Operations department supports the Edward Jones Trust Company by ensuring consistent, well controlled execution of trust and custody activities while proactively identifying and managing operational, regulatory, financial, and third-party risk. The Trust Operations team helps protect clients, meet regulatory expectations, and strengthen the overall client and branch experience. The Risk Management Specialist is responsible for the management of the team risk and third-party vendor oversight management program, which includes development and ownership of oversight plans, executing oversight responsibilities, performing periodic risk assessments, monitoring key risks / third party vendors, and reporting on risk and third-party vendor oversight to leadership. RESPONSIBILITY SUMMARY: Develop and maintain strong subject matter expertise across the team's core and critical functions, including a clear understanding of purpose, execution, and upstream and downstream impacts to support escalations, change initiatives, and efficiency improvements. Oversee and manage client, regulatory, processing, and financial risk through effective monitoring of business processes, external conditions, and third party vendor activities to ensure risks are identified, assessed, and appropriately mitigated. Apply third party vendor management practices by evaluating control effectiveness, providing feedback, and partnering with vendors to address performance, process, and risk management opportunities. Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes, streamline or eliminate unnecessary work, and reduce risk, while supporting consistent execution and a strong client and branch experience. Communicate and collaborate effectively with associates, leaders, branch partners, and third party relationships, including reporting on risk and vendor oversight to senior leadership and supporting timely issue resolution.
A Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required. Concentrations in business, accounting, finance or management are preferred. 4+ years of experience in financial services (i.e. brokerage, mutual funds, insurance, asset management, etc.) preferred. Should include experience evaluating and implementing controls. Audit or compliance background preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required, including presenting information to third-party vendor leadership and senior management both verbally and in writing. Experience addressing questions / inquiries from external organizations such as FINRA, SEC, Audit, Compliance, and Field Supervision is preferred. Ability to extract, manipulate and leverage relevant data when managing risk and making related decisions. Experience is required in using data mining/analysis tools. Must be able to make decisions in gray areas where little or no guidance is available. Consistent use of good judgment required, as decisions are complex, non-routine, risk-based judgment with high financial risk. Ability to collaborate, drive change and lead/influence others without formal authority. Additional attributes that would set this individual up for success.
