Job Summary

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine is seeking an Open Rank physician to provide gastroenterology services at the Morsani Center and Tampa General Hospital. This is a full‑time, 12‑month salaried faculty appointment that affords attending staff privileges at Tampa General Hospital (TGH) and affiliated hospitals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide General GI ambulatory clinics, inpatient call & coverage, and endoscopy time; participate in clinical teaching for medical students, residents, and fellows in clinic, endoscopy center, and hospital ward settings.
  • Review charts, conduct patient phone calls, finish clinical notes, and respond to MyChart messages.
  • Report to a Chair or other appropriate higher‑level administrator of a state university; perform teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities; advise academically; and may represent the university, college/school, or department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral/Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization, with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service; meeting university criteria for appointment to Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
  • Candidate must be Board‑certified or eligible in Internal Medicine and/or Gastroenterology.

The Physician will join a dedicated team of healthcare providers and will provide comprehensive and continuing care. This will include routine and emergency clinic care, support of health promotion and preventative medicine. This person will support CHP's mission, vision, and values and will adhere to compliance protocols as well as CHP's policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the practice call schedule
  • Maintain board certification
  • Maintain all other required certifications including BLS and PALS
  • Maintain patient medical records within the electronic health record in a timely fashion
  • Submit patient charges in a timely fashion
  • Support the mission, vision and values of CHP
  • Be a community ambassador for CHP
  • Abide by all human resource policies including those pertaining to professional behavior
  • Participate in practice and organizational meetings and events in a positive, collaborative, and supportive manner
  • Be a supportive and collaborative practice partner

Qualifications

  • Prefer previous practice experience of 3 or more years
  • Prefer bilingual in English and Spanish

Position Details

  • There are currently three clinical faculty members supported by a full‑time pediatric rheumatology nurse.
  • This position is part of Inova Children’s Multispecialty Clinic that includes dedicated infusion suite, clinical pharmacist, social worker, and access to PT/OT and state‑of‑the‑art radiology facilities.
  • We collaborate closely with the National Institutes of Health and the National Eye Institute in management of complex cases and have ties with GW Myositis Center as a Cure JM Center of Excellence.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of accredited Medical Doctorate Program (MD/DO)
  • Board Certification: Must be board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Rheumatology
  • Certification: Must obtain advanced certification in applicable modality within one year of training; BLS from the American Heart Association.
  • Licensure: Currently hold or ability to obtain an unrestricted VA medical licensure
  • Payer Credentialing: Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third‑party payors and ability to enroll as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor
  • Medical Staff Credentialing: Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services
