At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. Job Summary

ZERO is seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Development Officer (CDO) to join its Executive Leadership Team. Reporting to the CEO, the ideal candidate has deep development expertise, a proven track record of driving growth, experience diversifying revenue streams, and strong relationship management skills. Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and own the annual $16.5M revenue goal, provide monthly forecasting and risk-mitigation strategies to ensure attainment of funding targets.
  • Drive year-over-year growth in new donor acquisition and corporate partnerships; diversify revenue streams and increase high-net-worth giving.
  • Directly manage a portfolio of top-tier donors, fostering relationships that position supporters as essential partners.
  • Lead a high-performing development team using technology platforms and sales methodologies; deliver accurate short- and long-term financial forecasts for strategic decision-making.
  • Design and execute a mission-aligned, comprehensive multi-year fundraising strategy.
  • Balance leadership and hands-on fundraising, including maintaining a personal portfolio of donors and corporate accounts.
  • Establish and track metrics; adjust tactics to achieve goals.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify unique funding opportunities for mission-critical initiatives.
  • Define priorities and staff roles across departments; report to the President & CEO and advise on development matters.
  • Oversee Board development and recruitment; serve as staff liaison to the Board Development Committee.
  • Prepare, manage, forecast, and monitor the development budget; align with organizational goals.
  • Ensure development operations comply with regulations, laws, and ethical standards; engage a nationwide workforce.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, learning from setbacks, and continuous improvement; develop team through feedback and training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of nonprofit development and fundraising leadership.
  • 5 years of executive leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience securing gifts and partnerships of $1M+.
  • Experience leading teams to revenue goals of $15M+.
  • Proven track record of leading nationwide teams to ambitious revenue goals.
  • CFRE certification a plus.
  • Experience working with volunteers and board members to gain support and investment.
  • Proven ability to implement comprehensive fundraising campaigns (major gifts, corporate partnerships, events, individual giving).
  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical/biotech advocacy funding space; data-driven donor acquisition and stewardship strategies.
  • Knowledge of donor prospecting, cultivation, and engagement; diverse fundraising channels including digital fundraising and events.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to articulate mission and impact.
  • Understanding of revenue budgeting and forecasting; proficiency with Donor CRM, Google and Microsoft suites, and related tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
