West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics seek a General Pediatrician to help support the Genetics service (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV, and may be assigned periodic outreach clinics in Charleston, Huntington, Martinsburg, Princeton, Summersville, and/or Vienna.
The Division of Genetics is a robust program that continues to expand to provide access to professional genetic services, not only to the citizens of West Virginia, but also to regions in neighboring states including Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Our team consists of metabolic dietitians, genetic counselors, genetic nurse practitioners, and one clinical geneticist.
Duties
The successful candidate will practice in the areas of genetics for pediatric patients. They will work in a rapidly growing academic teaching clinic with appropriate guidance and supervision of the board-certified geneticist. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students and residents. Clinical responsibilities include a mix of inpatient consults, telemedicine, and clinic. The Genetics division is also the administrative home of an annual grant from the state of West Virginia funding medical directorship of the state newborn screening lab.
Qualifications
Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for a state medical license. Successful candidate must have completed a pediatric residency program and be board certified or eligible in pediatrics. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment. Previous experience in genetics is not required. Pediatricians at the mid‑career level looking for opportunities to practice precision medicine are encouraged to apply. In‑practice training will be provided by our geneticist and genetic counselors. The division will also provide access to national conferences in genetics and metabolism such as ACMG annual conferences and ASHG annual conference. Should the successful applicant decide later to pursue official certification in clinical genetics, a stipend in exchange for commitment to return to WVU will be provided during the two years of fellowship.
