We’re hiring a first-hire AI/ML Engineer for a legal tech company based in Washington, DC (hybrid). This is a hands-on role building intelligent systems that process large volumes of legal and government documents - from scanned PDFs to handwritten records.

This role is about autonomy, ownership, and production-level delivery. You’ll be building the data science function from the ground up.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Designing and deploying OCR pipelines to handle unstructured and degraded data
  • Automating redaction of sensitive information (PII, PHI, classified content)
  • Building LLM-based summarization and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems
  • Leading end-to-end ML workflows: from preprocessing to deployment

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has 2+ years in ML/NLP with experience in OCR or document parsing
  • Is fluent in Python and frameworks like PyTorch, HuggingFace, LangChain, etc.
  • Has experience with unstructured data and production-grade deployments
  • Can lead independently, without waiting to be told what to build

Design, develop, and implement new software and maintain and improve existing software to support the overall quality of the customer and end-user experience. Think outside of the box to implement high-performing, scalable solutions. Lead code reviews and contribute to team-wide engineering initiatives. Keep up to date with new technologies and techniques in frontend and backend development, AWS services, and software engineering best practices. Lead the development of Micro services and Batch jobs for our application. Design, develop, and maintain fast and responsive APIs. Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, building, and deployment of services. Work with the Software Development Team and service providers in a geographically distributed structure.
Position allows for remote work 3 days per week and reports to Denver office.
Job Requirements: Requires a Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field. Position requires 6 years of progressive, post-Bachelor’s related experience. Must have some experience in each of the following skills: Cloud Computing Knowledge, including AWS, Google, or Azure; Micro services architecture using Spring Boot and REST API; Authentication and Authorization implementation using OAuth, JSON Web Tokens (JWT), and Spring Security; Spring Batch for Batch Job implementation; Data Modelling using Relational Database Management System (Oracle, SQL Server, or Postgres) and NoSQL database (Couchbase or MongoDB); Continuous Integration and deployment using Jenkins; and Distributed systems architecture using Messaging framework, including JMS, IBM MQ, or Google Pub-Sub.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Senior Software Engineer at Chess Solutions LLC, you will serve as the principal developer of a digital vetting platform. You will be responsible for maintenance and feature improvement of a system that utilizes a Flask server, a Mongo Database, and a React Front End. You are comfortable with thread management, distributing workloads across the CPU and GPU, building responsive interfaces, and designing data structures with privacy, operational security, and future analytics in mind. You will have the support of teammates with strong front end design skills.

You are a strong collaborator and communicator. You are able to plan and estimate your time, are self-directed in development, and you communicate dependencies well in advance. You are able to build rapport and trust with customers, translate customer requirements into roadmap items, and develop consensus on prioritization across a wide set of customer constituencies. You are a bug hunter who assumes responsibility for system issues in your part of the stack, and you expect others to operate similarly. You understand the value of unit tests, ci/cd pipelines, and establishing quality assurance metrics and processes.

You write excellent documentation at all phases of a project. You plan well to communicate intent and design, welcoming others to provide feedback and input into your project planning. You understand there are multiple levels of documentation to produce, including for internal development, external integrators, system security plans and compliance, and end users.

This is a hybrid role , with an expectation of working in office or collaborating with customers/teammates in Northern Virginia (Leesburg, VA). Work will primarily be remote, but you will be available for in person meetings 4-5 times per quarter.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, maintain and improve python server based applications and backend code.
  • Present opportunities for refactoring and code base changes in the context of wider priorities.
  • Port existing code bases to other programming languages to maintain and expand functionality, improve performance, and/or improve security.
  • Integrate third-party data streams using various transport protocols and other data acquisition methods as identified
  • Develop highly functional front end software in collaboration with UI/UX developers
  • Design and implement NoSQL based schemas and databases
  • Create and implement plans for the deployment and updating of software in a network isolated environment
  • Utilize Linux and Windows based environments for development and deployment
  • Implement human data evaluation algorithms and translate that into code for automated data analysis
  • Utilize Git, semantic versioning, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Writing unit tests
  • Write documentation for use by developers and users
  • Engage customers to understand requirements and translate them into tasks
  • Participate in an Agile-Sprint based development lifecycle
  • Experience working with distributed systems and Docker-based deployments

  • Experience with utilizing external and internal webcams in software applications, including controlling exposure time, gain, white balancing, power line frequency, and other parameters from Windows and Linux environments

Your expertise marketing solutions to those in the Financial Services industry will shine as you collaborate across Sales, Growth Marketing, and Product teams to drive an integrated GTM strategy and differentiated narrative for buyers and influencers. You will serve as the SME on the challenges, value drivers, and buying journey for the banking, wealth management, and insurance verticals - responsible for crafting high-impact messaging, positioning, and content, identifying priority use cases where we have a right to win, defining cross-functional go-to-market sales plays, enabling our field teams with vital content and tools, and building customer-facing assets that contribute to a strong pipeline for our solutions. As a trusted advisor, you'll provide our field teams with the insights and resources needed to close deals and expand within existing accounts. This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Sr. Director, Solution & International Marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation of differentiated positioning, high-impact messaging, and customer-facing content that establishes the Docusign IAM platform as the premier solution for the Financial Services industry across the entire agreement lifecycle.
  • Partner with Sales Operations, Growth Marketing, and Sales Enablement to design and execute Financial Services sales plays, playbooks, training, and tools that accelerate pipeline and deal velocity.
  • Serve as the primary SME on Financial Services buyer personas, uncovering deep customer insights and market trends to optimize the sales cycle and identify high-priority use cases where Docusign has a right to win.
  • Support strategic customer and internal events (customer and partner conferences, sales meetings, executive briefings) by developing Financial Services narratives, presentations, and speaker materials that reinforce Docusign's differentiated value.
  • Equip Partner Marketing with compelling industry messaging and positioning to fuel joint go-to-market campaigns and co-marketing strategies across the Financial Services ecosystem.

Job Designation

Hybrid: Employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly in-office expectation)

What you bring

Basic

  • 8+ years of product marketing experience in the B2B SaaS space, preferably with a focus on tailoring your product marketing craft to the Financial Services industry.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred

  • MBA from top tier school or equivalent work experience.
  • 4+ years of engagement targeting Financial Services professionals.
  • Self-starter who can accomplish projects with minimal need for supervision.
  • Highly collaborative, enthusiastic, open, proactive, and results-driven.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with clear examples of using data for customer insights and recommendations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven track record of working with multiple cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to understand and simplify complex, technical topics for non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute go-to-market strategies and innovative programs that drive product solutions adoption.
  • Experience creating and leading sales plays with measurable impact.

Wage Transparency

Pay for this position is based on a number of factors including geographic location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Based on applicable legislation, the below details pay ranges in the following locations:

California: $146,400.00 - $235,375.00 base salary

Illinois, Colorado, Massachusetts and Minnesota: $140,100.00 - $197,925.00 base salary

Washington, Maryland, New Jersey and New York (including NYC metro area): $140,100.00 - $206,775.00 base salary

This role is also eligible for the following:

  • Bonus: Sales personnel are eligible for variable incentive pay dependent on their achievement of pre-established sales goals. Non-Sales roles are eligible for a company bonus plan, which is calculated as a percentage of eligible wages and dependent on company performance.
  • Stock: This role is eligible to receive Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
