Senior Software Engineer
Gilder Search Group
northern, ky
Compensation: 150.000 - 190.000

Senior Software Engineer, AI-Accelerated Development

The engineers who define how AI gets used in production, not just how it gets talked about, are about to become the most valuable people on any engineering team. This role is for one of them.

Company Snapshot:

Our client is a cloud communications API platform (CPaaS) that powers voice and text messaging for more than 1,500 companies, ranging from contact centers to fintech platforms to mobile carriers. Their lineup spans voice APIs, SMS/MMS messaging, RCS for Business, branded calling tools, and bring-your-own-carrier (BYOC) options, engineered around carrier redundancy, compliance, and U.S.-based support. Their customers depend on this team to make sure every call and text gets where it's going.

The Mandate:

This team is looking for a Senior Engineer who has already put in serious hours with AI-assisted development, someone who knows precisely where these tools accelerate work and where they quietly introduce risk, and who can pass that judgment on to others. You'll build across the Voice, Messaging, and Platform Services stack while helping define how the broader engineering org adopts AI-native workflows, from code generation through agent-driven automation. Shipping features is only part of it; raising the whole team's velocity and quality bar through smart tooling is the rest.

Where You'll Make an Impact:

  • Build and ship features across Voice, Messaging, and Platform Services (APIs, routing logic, carrier integrations, messaging pipelines)
  • Use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) daily, and help teammates build that same fluency
  • Evaluate and recommend AI tools and workflows for the wider engineering team, shaping internal best practices and guardrails
  • Build and run AI agents that automate real engineering and operational work (testing, monitoring, incident triage, migrations, documentation), with proper guardrails and human review
  • Help integrate AI-assisted development into CI/CD, code review, and QA without putting reliability or security at risk
  • Rotate through weekly on-call for production systems carrying live voice and messaging traffic
  • Work directly with product management on technical scoping, estimation, and tradeoffs
  • Document decisions and workflows clearly, including for tooling the team adopts

What You Bring to the Table:

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally backend/API work, telecom/CPaaS, or high-reliability distributed systems
  • Genuine daily fluency with AI coding tools, with real opinions on specific workflows and prompting techniques, and where these tools fall short
  • Strong fundamentals: you correct AI-generated code rather than rubber-stamping it, backed by real depth in data structures, system design, testing, and security
  • Hands-on experience building and operating AI agents (multi-step or tool-using agents via frameworks like Claude Agent SDK, LangChain, or similar), beyond single-shot prompting
  • Comfort with a modern backend language/framework (Node.js, Python, Go, or Java) and RESTful API design; this team runs primarily on Node with some Python
  • Strong written communication for a distributed team
  • Able to be onsite in Raleigh, NC Wednesdays and Thursdays each week; this role cannot sponsor work visas
  • Nice to have: telecom protocols (SIP, SMPP), messaging standards (SMS/MMS/RCS), or carrier integration experience
  • Nice to have: experience running agents in production, not just prototypes, including failure modes, cost/latency tradeoffs, and safety guardrails

The Perks:

  • Medical (employee 100% covered), plus dental and vision for you and your family
  • Generous PTO and 10+ paid company holidays
  • 401(k) with a 4% match
  • Competitive salary plus commission
  • Team-building events, volunteer days, and a genuinely collaborative culture

Why This Role, Why Now:

  • Real infrastructure, real stakes: your code carries actual calls and texts for real customers
  • A front-row seat in the fast-growing CPaaS space
  • A small, senior team with genuine visibility into the product roadmap
  • The chance to shape how an entire engineering org works with AI, not just use the tools
  • Genuinely open-ended career path from here
  • Hybrid setup in Raleigh, onsite Wednesday and Thursday

Job Description

Who we are

DigiCert is a global leader in intelligent trust. We protect the digital world by ensuring the security, privacy, and authenticity of every interaction. Our AI-powered DigiCert ONE platform unifies PKI, DNS, and certificate lifecycle management, to secure infrastructure, software, devices, messages, AI content and agents. Learn why more than 100,000 organizations, including 90% of the Fortune 500, choose DigiCert to stop today’s threats and prepare for a quantum-safe future at

Job summary

The DigiCert Platform team is the foundation everything else runs on. We build and own the DigiCert One platform that powers every other DigiCert product – the shared infrastructure, services, and identity layer that product teams across DigiCert depend on to ship. Most critically, we own IAM for the entire DigiCert product portfolio: every login, every session, every access decision across DigiCert ONE flows through our team.

This is high-leverage, high-stakes platform engineering. The systems you build won’t serve one product – they’ll serve all of them, at enterprise scale, with security requirements that leave no margin for error.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who combines deep Java and React expertise with production-grade IAM knowledge, and who treats AI as a genuine part of how they work – not a novelty. You’ll own complex problems end-to-end, influence how the platform evolves, and raise the technical bar for the engineers around you. If you want your work to matter at scale, this is where to do it.

What you will do

  • Lead the design and development of Java backend services and RESTful APIs – driving architectural decisions, defining API contracts, and setting the bar for code quality across the team
  • Own complex full-stack features spanning Java backend services and React frontend, from requirements through production, including performance optimization and long-term maintainability
  • Architect and implement IAM flows – OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and SAML – with deep, production-tested knowledge of token lifecycle, session management, multi-tenant identity, and integration with Okta, Azure AD, or equivalent identity providers
  • Champion security engineering practices: secure-by-design architecture, threat modeling, RBAC/ABAC patterns, token security, and zero-trust principles applied in a platform context
  • Drive CI/CD maturity – own and improve pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar; define deployment strategies (blue/green, canary) and reliability standards across services
  • Operate confidently with infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, and IaC tools (Terraform, Helm) at production scale, including cost-aware design and platform reliability
  • Use AI coding agents fluently (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) as a native part of your daily workflow – and help the team do the same; bring judgment on where AI accelerates delivery and where human review is non-negotiable
  • Integrate and ship AI/LLM capabilities into platform features: LLM API integration, prompt engineering, RAG patterns, and agentic workflows embedded into real product experiences
  • Mentor and grow junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design feedback, pairing sessions, and technical guidance
  • Own observability and incident response for the services you build – define SLOs, instrument with New Relic, Splunk, or Datadog, and lead post-mortems that improve the system
  • Partner closely with Product and Design to shape requirements, push back on scope when needed, and consistently deliver value on time

What you will have

  • +5 years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful tenure in a platform or identity-adjacent domain
  • Use AI coding agents (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, etc.) as a native part of your workflow – not occasionally, but daily and fluently
  • Identify where AI can accelerate delivery and advocate for AI-first practices within the team
  • Expert-level Java development: Spring Boot, RESTful API design, microservices patterns, performance tuning, and production reliability
  • Strong React engineering: hooks, component architecture, state management (Redux or equivalent), and experience building complex, accessible UIs
  • Deep, production-grade knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and SAML – you've debugged token flows, handled edge cases in multi-tenant environments, and integrated with enterprise identity providers like Okta or Azure AD
  • Strong security engineering fundamentals: threat modeling, RBAC/ABAC, secure token handling, input validation, and security-first design in a platform context
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and IaC tools (Terraform or Helm); comfortable owning infrastructure, not just consuming it
  • Solid command of relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL): schema design, query optimization, indexing strategy, and performance at scale
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and cloud-native design patterns
  • Strong communication skills – able to drive alignment across engineering, product, and security stakeholders; comfortable presenting design decisions and tradeoffs
  • Familiarity withagentic AI workflows – building tools that use LLMs, function calling, or autonomous pipelines

DigiCert is an Equal Opportunity employer and is committed to diversity in its workforce. In compliance with applicable federal and state laws, DigiCert prohibits discrimination on the basis of race or ethnicity, religion, color, national origin, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, veteran's status, status as a qualified person with a disability, or genetic information. Software Engineer, Data Platform (Foundations Lead)

Compensation: 281.000 - 334.000

Who We Are

Notion is the collaborative AI workspace where teams and agents think together. We're building one place where your knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools live side by side, so work is faster, clearer, and less fragmented. Millions of individuals, small teams, and large companies run their work on Notion.

Notinos (our employees) are customer zero in bringing this future of work to life. We care about craft, building things that last, and the belief that great work is still fundamentally human. Our goal isn’t to ship the next feature. Each and every team of Notinos is working to set the standard for how humans work together in the AI era. From building a business’s system of record to making and managing AI agents to automating away the busy work, we care deeply about giving our customers more time for their life’s work.

About the Role:

Notion’s Data Foundations team builds and operates the batch and streaming infrastructure behind our product features, analytics, search, and AI experiences. We’re looking for a hands‑on technical leader to shape the next generation of this platform as Notion serves larger customers, expands globally, and supports more data‑intensive products. You’ll identify the highest‑leverage problems, set direction, build and develop a high‑performing team, and lead multi‑quarter initiatives across our data lake, streaming, distributed‑compute, governance, and reliability systems. You’ll stay close to critical technical decisions while creating clear ownership, growing engineers and technical leaders, and helping the team execute as one—partnering closely with Data Engineering, Data Product, Search, AI, Infrastructure, and Security.

This role can be based in either San Francisco or New York City. We work from our offices on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays (our Anchor Days) because we do our best thinking and building together in person. We’re looking for someone who’s excited to work alongside the team during those days.

What You’ll Achieve:

  • Set the direction for Data Foundations. Turn ambiguous company and customer needs into a clear multi‑quarter strategy across the data lake, streaming, distributed compute, governance, and platform reliability—and align engineers and partner teams around it.

  • Build and develop a high‑performing team. Attract strong engineers, set clear expectations, grow technical leaders, and create an environment of ownership, direct feedback, and accountability.

  • Lead the team’s hardest initiatives from idea to operation. Ensure complex work has strong technical ownership, de‑risk architectures through prototypes, break work into shippable milestones, and coordinate execution across engineers and teams.

  • Make Notion’s data platform enterprise‑ready. Guide the team toward durable foundations for external key management, data residency, access controls, lifecycle management, and governance without creating separate systems for every requirement.

  • Raise reliability, simplicity, and cost efficiency. Identify systemic risks and architectural gaps, establish clear service ownership, and lead migrations that make Kafka, Debezium, S3/Iceberg, Spark, EMR, Athena, and related systems easier to operate at scale.

  • Multiply the engineering organization. Establish reusable abstractions and paved paths, delegate meaningful ownership, raise the quality of technical decisions, and scale expertise through coaching, documentation, tooling, design reviews, and direct collaboration.

Skills You’ll Need to Bring:

  • Deep data‑platform expertise. You have designed and operated large‑scale batch and streaming systems and can reason across storage, compute, ingestion, orchestration, serving, governance, and production operations.

  • Direction‑setting leadership. You have led a Data Platform or infrastructure team through multi‑quarter work—finding the right problems, defining a strategy, sequencing execution, and driving decisions with long‑term consequences.

  • Team‑building and talent development. You have attracted strong engineers, grown people across career stages, developed technical leaders, and created clarity when expectations or performance needed to change.

  • Hands‑on engineering judgment. You stay close to critical systems and designs and know when to prototype, simplify, buy, build, or migrate. You can go deep while preserving ownership for the engineers leading the work.

  • Platform‑product thinking. You understand the needs behind partner requests and turn repeated patterns into safe, ergonomic, self‑serve capabilities rather than accumulating bespoke solutions.

  • Organizational influence. You create clarity across team boundaries, surface uncomfortable technical or organizational risks early, and help engineers do their best work through strong context, delegation, feedback, and coaching.

  • You don’t need deep AI expertise for every role, but we do expect every Notino to be intellectually curious, drawn to tinkering and discovery, and excited to use AI as a real collaborator in their work. People who thrive here don’t treat AI as a novelty. They use it to think better, move faster, and build more creatively.

The Systems and Problems You May Lead

  • Evolving Notion’s data lake toward an S3 + Iceberg lakehouse with stronger governance, discoverability, schema evolution, and lifecycle controls

  • Scaling Kafka and Debezium‑based streaming infrastructure that powers real‑time product, analytics, and AI use cases

  • Improving Spark and distributed‑compute performance, workload isolation, developer experience, and cost efficiency

  • Designing EKM, data residency, and compliant processing capabilities across Notion’s data estate

  • Creating clear platform interfaces and self‑serve primitives for Data Engineering, Search, AI, and product teams

Why This Role Matters

Notion’s data infrastructure is no longer only an internal analytics layer. It increasingly powers customer‑facing features, AI systems, enterprise controls, and high‑volume product workflows. The team needs a leader who can see across these systems, build the technical leadership and operating culture required for that responsibility, and find the problems that matter before they become roadmap blockers. Success means Data Foundations has a strong, growing team with clear direction and dependable execution—and teams across Notion can build ambitious data‑powered products faster without compromising customer trust.

Notion is committed to providing highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits. The compensation offered for this role will be based on multiple factors such as location, the role’s scope and complexity, and the candidate’s experience and expertise, and may vary from the range provided below. For roles based in San Francisco, the estimated base salary range for this role is $281,000 - $334,000 per year.

#LI-Onsite

A Note on AI

You don’t need deep AI expertise for every role, but we do expect every Notino to be intellectually curious, drawn to tinkering and discovery, and excited to use AI as a real collaborator in their work. For some roles, AI fluency is a core requirement — when that’s the case, we'll say so explicitly in the qualifications. People who thrive here don’t treat AI as a novelty. They use it to think better, and make their work easier for others to build on.

Equal Opportunity & Accommodations

We hire talented people from a wide range of backgrounds. If you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every bullet, we still encourage you to apply. Notion is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of any legally protected characteristic. Consistent with applicable law, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records. Notion provides reasonable accommodations during the application process; if you need one, please let your recruiter know.

Notion is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate in hiring or any employment decision based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), marital status, ancestry, physical or mental disability, genetic information, veteran status, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or other applicable legally protected characteristic. Notion considers qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law. Notion is also committed to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities and disabled veterans in our job application procedures. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, please let your recruiter know.
