An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, we all have some things in common: an environment that is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.

Students will work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences at West Mountain Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

• Instructs all levels of the Learn to Swim Program (Children and Adults) to the American Red Cross Standard.
• Instructors must be outgoing, motivating, supportive, and charismatic.

Typical Day:

  • Responsible for assisting with the physical care, guidance, and supervision of Intellectually Disabled individuals in the Day support, Residential setting, and Community.
  • Performs activities and duties to help individuals develop acceptable habits and attitudes;
  • Helps the individuals meet the outcomes of any service or behavioral plan;
  • Insures daily needs and health and safety of the individual are met;
  • Assist individuals with daily hygiene and personal living skills;
  • Complete data collection in accord with person centered plan;
  • Responds quickly and appropriately to unpredictable behavior and circumstances.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements:

Position Summary:

The Peer Review Nurse will evaluate clinical documentation, patient charts, and care processes to ensure they meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, and medical necessity.  Will identify opportunities to improve care, reduce risk, and prepare data for medical staff review committees.  Will conduct comprehensive reviews of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to assess the appropriateness and timeliness of care provided.  Identifies trends, risks, and variations in clinical performance, preparing summary reports for committees.  Will facilitate the peer review process and attend peer review meetings.


Part Time Position with flexible schedule.


Qualifications:

Requires completion of Registered Nurse program, prefer BSN.  Requires Minimum 5 years clinical nursing experience, including experience in quality improvement and utilization review.  Requires proficiency in data abstraction, EHR systems, and critical thinking.

 

Requires Current State of California Board of Registered Nursing License, Current American Heart Association BCLS certificate.
