Responsible for the testing of laboratory specimens and the reporting of results in all areas of the core laboratory. Automation and middle ware experience a plus. Follows laboratory policies and procedures and maintains quality control practices in the laboratory.

I. Major Responsibilities:

  • Specimen Collection: Collects blood sample by using appropriate venipuncture skills in various situations, different age groups (e.g.: adult, pediatric and neonatal population), demonstrates proper professional conduct and follows specific sample collection techniques as per department protocol.
  • Specimen Receiving and Processing: Receives specimen in the computer, follows department protocol in redistributing specimen samples within the different areas of lab and completes specimen processing to the testing stage e.g.: centrifugation, packaging, storage, etc.
  • Specimen Preparation & Distribution: Evaluates the specimen for sample integrity, any pretreatment and prepares solutions and reagents for use. Routes specimens to appropriate reference labs as per protocol.
  • Assessment: Completes the assessment of instrument and reagent function by following QC/Calibration protocol, recording and documenting the various steps, performing daily/weekly maintenance as per department/manufacturers recommendations.
  • Planning & Performance of Tests: Performs tests with precision and accuracy. Knows critical values, verifies and records all test results before broadcasting and keeps inventory list updated.

II. Position Qualifications:

  • License/Certification/Education: Required: AAS Degree in Medical Technology from an accredited school, MLS or equivalent Preferred: BS in Medical technology degree
  • 2. MLT (ASCP) or MT (ASCP) certification
  • Experience/Skills: Required: 2 years of working experience that has a high complex laboratory automation Basic computer knowledge

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

Must have availability to train 4-5 days per week for 4-5 weeks prior to dropping to a per diem schedule.

The Neurodiagnostic Technologist Level 2 performs standard and complex Neurodiagnostic procedures for patients with limited supervision as directed according to established standards and practices. Provides technical assistance and training to ABRET eligible technologists and students. Completes all necessary documentation for departmental records and patient procedures. Supports all functions, goals, and objectives of the department as well as development of any new programs that involve the Neurodiagnostic Lab and Epilepsy Unit. Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Neurodiagnostic Technologist Level 2 at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

Electrode Placement

  • Utilizes the International 10-20 Electrode Placement system to measure, mark and apply electrodes to the predetermined positions on the patient's scalp.
  • Routinely achieves impedance levels below 10k ohms.

Routine EEGs

  • Performs standard EEG recordings according to the departmental protocols including awake and asleep, bedside, isolation, geriatric, pediatric, neonatal, etc.
  • Utilizes the International 10-20 Electrode Placement system to measure, mark and apply electrodes to the predetermined positions on the patient's scalp.
  • Adapts methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on the history, clinical observations, and EEG findings.
  • Compiles data on patient's neurologic status and clinical history which may be pertinent to interpretation of the Neurodiagnostic procedure from the chart, patient or family, etc.
  • Completes both technical and professional bills upon completion of study and enters billing number in the record.
  • Documents completion of study in the electronic log.

Video EEGs

  • Performs standard Video EEG Long Term Monitoring recording according to the department protocols.
  • Utilizes the International 10-20 Electrode Placement system to measure, mark and apply electrodes to the predetermined positions on the patient's scalp.
  • Maintain and replace electrodes as needed to maintain the integrity of the EEG recordings.
  • Collects patient information pertinent to the interpretation of these tests and employs proper procedures for testing.
  • Compiles data on patient's neurologic status and clinical history which may be pertinent to interpretation of the Neurodiagnostic procedure from the chart, patient or family, etc.
  • Performs editing and pruning of studies with limited supervision.
  • Performs filing and archiving of patient records.
  • Adapts methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on the history, clinical observations, and EEG findings.
  • Completes both technical billing after completion of the study.
  • Documents completion of study in the electronic log.

Evoked Potentials

  • Performs standard Visual Evoked Potentials, Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials, and Somatosensory Evoked Potentials according to ACNS guidelines.
  • Ensures technical quality of recordings by making adjustments as necessary.

Support During Seizures

  • Provides supportive patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizure and other patient emergency situations.
  • Assesses patient's memory, language, and patient's ability to follow commands during patient events. Place call to EMS in the event of an external medical emergency. Notifies interpreting physicians in the event the patient has a seizure during recording.

Customer/Peer Relations

  • Works in a professional and collaborative manner with all team members and physicians in the delivery of patient care and monitoring.
  • Displays a commitment of the value of teamwork by building strong relationships with patients, families, and team members. Cooperates and collaborates to perform duties promoting a unified and spirited workplace.

Departmental Protocols

  • Follows all department protocols.
  • Complies with all departmental policies described in the Departmental Policy and Procedure Manual.

Neurodiagnostic Equipment

  • Maintains all neurodiagnostic equipment in good working order.
  • Inspects for malfunctions and makes minor adjustments. Reports to manager/designee for major repairs. Cleans equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and within established HMH policy and procedure.

Continuing Education

  • Enhances professional growth and development through annual participation in educational programs, in-services, workshops, reading current publications on Neurophysiology testing/technology and Neurological disease, online CME through various professional organizations and manufacturers, and viewing recorded educational programs.

Safety and Infection Control

  • Practices universal precautions and follows all safety and infection control policies.
  • Disinfects and cleans equipment according to the manufacturer's guidelines and standards outlined in the Infection Control policy and Department policy.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families/visitors/team members in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Reports Risk Management concerns.
  • Responsible for completing all hospital and department annual mandatory requirements.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Move material using appropriate material handling tools and equipment including but not limited to: by hand, hand truck, pallet-jack, dolly and/or operation of forklifts or other vehicles.
  • Open and/or unwrap crates, boxes, cartons, and other containers using hammers, crowbars, cutting tools and tape.
  • Wrap, seal and secure material on pallets for distribution.
  • Collect, sort and/or stack such items or materials: as clothes, fertilizers, tools, lawn/garden supplies, machines, feed and all other products sold by the company.
  • Report any discrepancies in receiving to designated supervisor/manager.
  • Prepare merchandise for the selling floor by stripping plastic, changing tags and placing security tags on merchandise as required.
  • Assists with Return-to-Vendor, inter-company merchandise transfers and inventory cycle counts.
  • Track merchandise through the use of receiving forms and computer inventory software.
  • Assist in stockroom clean-up and maintenance as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned by direct supervisor that relates to the receiving and merchandising.


Requirements:


Required Skills/Experience: Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in inventory or merchandise receiving. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work quickly while maintaining accurate records. Must be comfortable in working with computer receiving software. Demonstrated teamwork. Exposure to visual merchandising and product placement techniques is desired.


Required Education/Certification: High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience. Forklift certification is preferred, not required.


Other Requirements: Must be able to work the majority of shift standing. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds frequently and participate in store merchandise resets.

        • Report incidents, accidents, and near-misses promptly and accurately. 
        • Support company safety training by demonstrating proper equipment use and safe work practices to staff.

        Administrative & Strategic Support
