Shift Leader
Papa Johns
Portland, ME

Job Description

Job Description
Description:

Better Ingredients. Better Pizza. Better Leaders.

At Papa John's, we believe the quality of our product starts with the quality of our people, and our Shift Leaders are proof of that. You're the one who keeps the standard high when the Store Team Leader steps out, who rallies the crew when the dinner rush hits, and who makes sure every customer interaction ends the right way. You don't just manage a shift. You own it.

The Role

You'll work side by side with the Store Team Leader to keep daily operations running at the level our guests expect. In their absence, the restaurant is yours to lead. That means directing your crew with confidence, making real-time decisions under pressure, holding the quality bar without compromise, and bringing the kind of energy that makes your team want to match it.

This role is for someone who's already shown they can be counted on, and is ready to take on more responsibility.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Your Team. You lead from the front. You'll coach crew members in the moment, jump in where needed, and create a shift culture that's focused, fun, and built on accountability. Your team will perform better because you're there.

Your Guests. Papa John's has built its reputation on quality and care, and you protect both every shift. You'll handle customer concerns with composure and professionalism, turning difficult situations into lasting positive impressions.

Your Operations. From opening duties to closing checklists, order accuracy to food safety standards, you'll keep every workstation running at Papa John's standard. You know what right looks like, and you don't let the shift drift from it.

Your Numbers. You understand that how you run a shift directly impacts the business. You'll help monitor performance, flag inefficiencies, and support the Store Team Leader in building the habits and procedures that drive profitability.

Requirements:

You're calm under pressure, clear in your communication, and consistent in your follow-through. You coach without micromanaging, solve problems without escalating drama, and hold yourself to the same standard you hold your crew. You're curious, coachable, and hungry to keep growing. Prior leadership or shift lead experience is preferred. Must be 18 or older. Food Handler Certification required or must be obtained before first shift.

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly pay
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off
  • Paid training and ongoing development
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Employee discount on Better Ingredients, Better Pizza
  • Referral program bonus

Your Path Forward

Shift Leader is where we develop our next Operating Managers. The experience you build here, running operations, developing crew members, managing in-the-moment decisions, is exactly the foundation our best store leaders are built on. We promote from within and we'll show you exactly what your growth path looks like from day one.

Work Environment
Work mainly at Naval Reactors Headquarters in the Washington, District of Columbia area with regular engagement with Department of Energy laboratories, nuclear training sites, shipyards, and nuclear powered ships and submarines; office based work that includes document reviews, technical meetings, inspections, and site visits rather than day to day shipboard watchstanding.

Eligibility for a security clearance when required for your rating or designator
Additional qualifications can include specific skills, education, licensure, or experience that are unique to a job or community and will be reviewed with you by a recruiter.

Specific options depend on the Sailor's status, training, and current Navy policy.
